When Jupiter is in Aquarius, Progress and Innovation Rule!

December 19, 2020 — December 29, 2021

Big old gassy Jupiter has been part of the powerful lineup, dominated by Pluto in Capricorn for the past year. In fact, while Jupiter is generally considered to be a positive influence, it actually made a major contribution to the colossal impact of the 2020 pandemic across the world. As I write this, it has another two weeks in Capricorn and interestingly, there seems to be another surge in infections. So, while generally you can look forward to good luck when Jupiter connects with your natal horoscope, in the wider context it's expansive influence can sometimes cause existing difficult situations to run out of control.

However, its move into Aquarius on the 19th of December really does mean the beginning of a new cycle. Not least because on the 21st it makes a once-in-20-year connection with Saturn, now also out of the grip of Pluto in Capricorn. Stay tuned for more info on Saturn and Jupiter's relationship!

Jupiter spends roughly one year in a sign, so it will leave Aquarius on December 29, 2021. It does, however, spend time from May 13 to July 28 in the early degrees of Pisces and where it starts it retrograde period.

So, what can we look forward to as Jupiter transits Aquarius? There will be more emphasis on humanitarian causes and the beginnings of reform into institutions that have stagnated and are no longer fit for purpose. This movement will be felt worldwide and will take longer than one year to manifest. Aquarius is associated with science and with Jupiter's presence in this sign will result in positive breakthroughs that will benefit mankind. It will also help ensure that developments and distribution of vital vaccines and other medicines will be distributed to all, not just those with means. In a pandemic, the solution lies with us all — we are all at risk until none of us are. This is the perfect representation of Jupiter in Aquarius!

Jupiter only makes two aspects with the outer planets this year, both at the start of its journey through Aquarius. It conjuncts Saturn on December 21st. These planets are like apples and oranges — Jupiter looks at the big picture while Saturn focuses on the detail. Jupiter doesn't recognise boundaries, Saturn creates them! Working together, they can create a new vision of how we can live — whether this is in the wider global and political sphere or within the confines of our own lives. Where do you need to welcome in new experiences and where do you need to regroup and tighten your belt? Only you will know, but this mighty conjunction can stimulate your desire to improve your life, and have the vision and the faith to make it happen.

On January 17, 2021, Jupiter makes a square aspect to Uranus in Taurus. This is traditionally a planetary pattern that marks the release of tension. It may be preceded by some kind of stalemate as both Aquarius and Taurus are 'fixed' signs that don't give in or change direction easily. If you have been wrestling with an ongoing dilemma or situation, be open to new thinking around the middle of January.

While Jupiter dips into Pisces from May to July, the atmosphere will really change. Jupiter 'rules' Pisces and is really 'in-tune' with the Piscean energy of healing, empathy and idealism. There could be a wave of goodwill gestures, both grand and on small local scales now as we begin the economic and social rebuilding and recovery of the havoc wreaked during the past year.

In the big picture, Jupiter's move into Aquarius will help us all to feel that the darkest days are receding and encourage us to start making positive plans for ourselves and our loved ones. After this past year, I think we call live with that!
